Losing Kim at the age of 42 to multiple myeloma was a painful, heartbreaking loss to all who loved her. Kim was my older sister and only sibling. We had a close, unique and loving relationship.
She introduced me to many wonderful things like mixed media art, organic foods and products, world music, and quirky things like a Norwegian cheese called gjetost, artist Eddie Breen and John Waters films. Kim was very spiritual and was influenced by the teachings of Paramahansa Yoganada and Amma, which I adopted into my life.
I have been blessed to have had such a wonderful sister, role model, friend and as we used to joke, "partner in crime" in my life. She was "Kimmie" or "Big Sis" to me and I was "Susie" or "lil' sis" to her. We did fun sister things together like shopping in outdoor markets and antique stores, dinner parties, dancing at concerts and going for long walks and talks. Through it all we always had fun and loved making each other laugh like crazy.
Kim was an amazing person and a true inspiration through her work and compassion. She was passionate about everything she did and yet still had many dreams for the future. She brought tremendous energy and happiness to my life and I feel lucky to have been a part of hers.
When I first moved to Boston, Kim made me an encouraging piece of artwork entitled, "Never Give Up." It is these words that keep me going everyday. I will always miss Kim, but feel hopeful knowing that her caring, gentle spirit will live on in helping others through the foundation.
